Gatez Farms Partnership with Grow Hope

For the fourth consecutive year we are partnering with Grow Hope!

Our team will be planting 60 acres of canola that will go to Grow Hope, a non-profit organization run by MCC in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. We are so humbled to be a part of such a wonderful organization that is working with fellow Canadians to help end world hunger!

$673.00
donated every day!

Our forecast for the 2022 year is $240,000 of revenue from our 60 acre canola field that will be donated. Utilizing the possible 4:1 matching support provided by the federal government and together with the assistance of kind donors who front the first $300.00 an acre of cost, the work we do on our Grow Hope field could amount to $673.00 a day towards supporting world hunger with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank!

Here's how it works:

When you sponsor an acre of land for $300, the farmers will grow your acre and donate the proceeds to MCC. After harvest, your acre will be worth as much as $500. That money will be matched by the government four to one, which means the $300 you spent to sponsor an acre will turn into as much as $2500!

100% of all proceeds go to help end hunger through MCC and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Here is a quick update on our Grow Hope field!

After plenty of rain, our Grow Hope barley field is finally getting some sun! The heads are filling up nicely with plump barley kernels and we are really seeing a colour change from bright greens to a beautiful shade of golden brown. Barley is really a neat crop once it begins to ripen because the beards it has on top allows it to sway in the wind like long grass.

We are estimating another 2-3 weeks before this field sees any harvesting action due to the cool weather and plenty of rain that delayed it. We estimate it to be a strong yielding field, and are so proud that it can go on to help so many others in need. We will do our very best to keep you all updated in advance in case anyone is interested in seeing the harvest.

IS NOW

HARVESTED!

September 25, 2019

Grow Hope Carstairs is in the bin! Yields were exceptional considering the amount of heavy rainfall this field endured. Including the drowned out areas we still achieved a barley yield of slightly over 100 bu/acre.  We pushed forward and were blessed with a window of opportunity to harvest this crop one day ahead of a devastating snow event. Thank you to all who invested in this process. We look forward to now finding markets for this grain that will strengthen Albertan’s position to help end world hunger!
