Supporting Our Community

Part of our philosophy is that we not only support our families and staff, but we choose to be involved in supporting our community and industry as well. To that end, we have been active in several endeavours over the years assisting in fundraising opportunities and supporting community families in times of need. We continue to support our communities and industry in as many ways as we can and hope you will enjoy sharing along with us on this page.

Harvest meals shared

Feeding our harvest crew is something we take pretty seriously around here! Our farm is known for the amazing meals Laura and the family create. We're very excited to be able to offer harvest meal to another farm crew as our donation for a local auction fundraiser for a community member battling cancer. Our daughter Madison is closely connected to the children of this family through her job teaching in Crossfield and Laura saw the opportunity to give through the love she puts into our fall meals!

Glasses

SEEING                  KINDNESS

Looking for a new pair of glasses, or maybe just an opportunity to help someone in need? Optima Eye Wear in Airdrie is a one-stop-shop! They are a family run business dedicated to helping those in need of eye wear. Our family first discovered Optima a year ago when our youngest, Madison, needed her first pair of glasses. They were very helpful and had a great selection at amazing prices. Fast forward to the present when it was becoming evident that both Blaine and Laura were in need of glasses themselves. Heading back to Optima for their fantastic customer service was a simple choice and after spending some time talking with the owner, Shahzed, they knew they had become life-long Optima customers.

Shahzed, shared with Blaine the charitable work he has done so far with his business. We are so humbled by his actions, as he has aided many people whether they are on AISH, a senior in need, first responders or single parents struggling to outfit their children. When Shahzed encountered a client with financial trouble who desperately needed glasses, he didn't think twice before extending a hand of kindness.

If you would like to contribute glasses to someone in need, feel free to stop by Optima and have a conversation with Shahzed about how you can help! If you are in need of glasses for yourself, be sure to try them out, we guarantee you will not be disapointed!

Another one of the many reasons why we are so proud of our team is for their drive to help

others. Helping out at our local food bank in Airdrie over the Christmas season has become a priority for us and our team, and we could not be prouder. The food bank strives to create a community where no one goes hungry and with the amazing job they are doing at their facility, we believe they're well on their way to that goal! There are many ways to help your local food bank by either donating food, money, or your time to volunteer. Click on the "DONATE FOOD" button below to find a local food bank near you!

Kindness Matters

Thoughts and Prayers to the Bishop Family

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Garth Bishop after he tragically passed from a single-car accident in mid-October. Garth has two young sons, and was recently married. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Bishop family, friends, and this community. May he rest in peace.

UPDATE: There will be a celebration of life for Garth at the Crossfield Hall on Friday, October 20th at 4 p.m. Donations can be made to Garth's wife Jessie, and their two sons Lincoln and Tyson, at any ATB location to the "Bishop Trust Account".

Cash for Kohan

Syngenta has an amazing team of employees, and that is how we initially began our working relationship with Jordie Hagel. Sadly, Jordie's 1-year old son, Kohan, has been diagnosed with a Bilateral Wilms Tumor. For those of you who do not know what a Bilateral Wilms Tumour is, it is a form of cancer on the kidney's, that is most commonly found in children under the age of five. Kohan has been undergoing treatment for the past four months, and has been responding well. He will continue with the treatments over the next several months battling his tumor. Jordan and Tamara are positive “with the help of wonderful doctors, unmeasurable love from family and friends, and most of all the wonderful and powerful grace of God; Kohan will not only push through this with strength that we only wish to have, but at the finish line he will have one incredible story to share that demonstrates perseverance, strength, love, and most of all faith.”

Agriculture is a close knit industry; when one of us is struck down, we all rally to help them back up. We would like to encourage you all to rally with Jordie, Tamara and Kohan to let them know they are not alone in this battle. There is a button below linked to the GoFundMe page, assisting Jordie and his wife Tamara with their financial load due to rising medical bills. We encourage you all to find it in your heart to donate and send your thoughts and prayers to this beautiful family in their time of need.

*** UPDATE!! Kohan has now been deemed CANCER FREE!! He is doing well, and will still be in for routine check-ups. The family would like to thank everyone who took the time to think of them, and who sent donations. Way to go team!

On August 21st we were pleased to be a part of the 2016 Alberta Open Farm Days and welcomed many visitors on to our yard to get a glimpse into what grain farming is all about. The weather brought sunshine, beautiful blue skies and we had a fantastic turnout of interested people.

Many different countries were represented and we enjoyed showing our guests around; introducing them to the equipment, our crops and our farm. We were fortunate enough that the weather even cooperated so we could have a small demonstration of harvest! The dry conditions allowed us to combine one of our early wheat fields which gave our guests the opportunity to enjoy the experience along with us.

Open Farm Days

Alberta Open Farms Days is all about farmers and ranchers inviting everyone in to see what agriculture is all about. We welcome all our neighbours, from urban to rural, to venture out and visit different agricultural operations when these days are available, as it is a wonderful thing to get to know more about where your food comes from!

Open Farm Days have been available in Alberta for four years now and it is a great way to showcase Alberta's agriculture and ag-tourism industries. We are very proud to have been a part of such a great opportunity this year.

We really enjoyed setting up some of the equipment that is and has been used over the many decades this farm has been in operation. We look at the beautiful old tractors and while we joke about how much we enjoy having cabs and air-conditioning, we always remember that it all began with manpower and horsepower.

How far our industry has come!

Supporting Our Local Olympian

We are THRILLED to be supporting and cheering for Danielle Lappage, the sister of one of our team members who has made it to the Rio Olympics in August 2016 for Canada! Austin is a very excited and proud brother we assure you!

Danielle is a Canadian freestyle wrestler who grew up in Olds, Alberta, who has achieved an impressive list of successes in her wrestling career. The most notable is her recent qualification to represent Canada in the 63kg weight class at the upcoming Rio Olympics!

Overcoming so many obstacles, including reconstructive ACL knee surgery in November 2014, Danielle is proving her strength, resilience and uncompromising desire to win. With a great attitude, a strong work ethic and tremendous support from her coaches and teammates, we know Danielle is an extremely strong contender! GO DANIELLE GO!!!

UPDATE:

Danielle is now home from Rio. A devastating tear to her Hamstring during the warm up for her event left her unable to compete. She was forced to forefit in her opening match, but that has not crippled her spirit. Danielle is still intensely training, and we will see where her determination will take her next! We love you Dans!

Volunteering Our Time

Earlier this winter, we spent a day with the Airdrie Food Bank. What a great day it was! Definitely a learning experience for all of us to see just exactly what goes on behind the scenes in such a vital and important service.

Wow! The organization and work involved is incredible! Much fun was had, with laughter ringing off the walls as we bagged, packed, date checked, stacked, stocked and sorted.

We will definitely be back! Check out their web site and don't forget to drop off a donation!  www.airdriefoodbank.com
